Parker: The 2016 Sociando-Mallet has a refulgent purple/black color. It has a very intense and rich, you might say ambitious bouquet with layers of small black cherries, blueberry and a touch of sloes, less tertiary than previous vintages and certainly more opulent. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe tannin that almost disguise the firm structure underneath. I admire the completeness of this Sociando-Mallet, the neatly embroidered new oak and the freshness on the finish. The 2015 Sociando-Mallet did not fire on all cylinders last year, but this 2016 is totally convincing. It comes highly recommended as one of the best wines produced at this estate in the northern Médoc. This is an outstanding wine from Mon. Gartreau.

Gerstl: Wow, der Duft verspricht wieder mal einen richtig guten Sociando, enorm konzentriert und komplex, tiefgündig, fein elegant, wirkt sehr frisch, aber auch reif. Auch am Gaumen stimmt alles, die genial feinen Tannine, die enorme Konzentration, die traumhaft frische, komplexe Aromatik, das raffiniert süsse Extrakt, das ist wirklich ein grandioser Sociando, endlich wieder einmal einer, der zumindest qualitativ in Richtung des grandiosen 1990ers geht, auch wenn er mit seinem betont frischen Auftritt stilistisch ganz anders ist. Er braucht wohl etwas mehr Zeit als viele 2016er aber es lohnt sich zweifellos ein paar Flaschen davon einzukellern. Ich bin mir ganz sicher, dass der mindestens so gut ist, wie der fabelhafte 1990er, den ich in den letzten 3 Monaten gleich drei mal verkosten durfte. 19/20
